Gebrüder Weiss expands into the Ukraine
New GW branch opened in Mukachevo
The Austrian logistics group Gebrüder Weiss (GW) opened a new branch in the Ukraine at the start of September 2005. The new Mukachevo location, situated about 60 kilometers from the Hungarian-Slovakian border, has been in operation since October 1st, 2005. With this Ukraine location, the Vorarlberg logistics service provider has added a new, strategically important node to its international network in Eastern Europe.
Despite the fact that market shares are (still) modest, the Ukraine has high growth figures thanks to the Eastern expansion of the EU and increased direct foreign investments. The decision to establish a new location of the GW group in Mukachevo was based on its proximity to the Hungarian and Slovakian borders.”Eastern Europe, Eastern Ukraine and Russia are emerging markets with correspondingly high development potential. The number of logistics service providers with local presence is still very low due to the lack of infrastructure. However, the transportation volume from west to east and vice versa is constantly increasing. With this new location, we are laying a good foundation for further expansion into these regions,” says Manfred Überfellner, GW Ukraine Regional Director.
100 locations worldwide
The Gebrüder Weiss Organisation employs a total of 3,281 staff worldwide at 100 locations. During the last financial year, this Austrian company, based in Lauterach, achieved a turnover of approximately 700 million euro.
