The prize was presented to the company yesterday evening during a festive award ceremony in the Vienna Museumsquartier. GW CEO Wolfgang Niessner accepted the prize from State Secretary Christa Kranzl: "I would like to thank our customers – in particular the REWE GROUP Austria, our partners – especially RailCargo Austria, and all of the GW employees that made this project a success.”
GW launched OCC, the company’s exclusive unit train, on January 7th, 2008, featuring daily journeys between Vienna and Bludenz with a stop at Hall/Tyrol. The multimodal solution has been saving around 60 truck routes daily as well as 9,000 tons of CO2 annually since its introduction.
Expanding OCC routes
On September 22nd, 2008 the participating parties reached another milestone in the Austrian transport market: They expanded the successful cooperation to include the Vienna-Salzburg route. This will save an additional 5,000 truck routes per year. Other measures that further demonstrate GW’s commitment to the environment are the company’s certification according to ISO 14001 as well as substantial investments into the latest vehicle technology and energy-efficient systems.
